“In acts of protest and artistic practice, female artists have used the body as a physical presence or a conceptual absence. In many instances, objects are carriers for protestors and artists, becoming representations, or corporeal replacements for the body. More specifically, beds, dresses, and dolls hold close relationships with the body, becoming complex, liminal spaces for female artists.”
